Material choice is fundamental in the design of any padlock, particularly one intended to withstand outdoor conditions and deliberate attacks. The body, shackle, and internal components of a 70mm disc padlock are crafted with specific materials to optimize strength, corrosion resistance, and longevity.

Body Material: The lock body is typically made from stainless steel or hardened steel, offering resistance to physical force and corrosion. Stainless steel, especially grades like 304 or 316, resists rust caused by exposure to moisture and harsh weather, making it suitable for outdoor use.

Shackle Material: In disc padlocks, the shackle is often replaced or complemented by a steel ring or shroud design that offers more protection. When a shackle is present, it is usually made from hardened steel or boron alloy steel, materials known for their toughness and resistance to cutting or sawing.

Internal Components: The internal mechanism, including springs, tumblers, and pins, is commonly made from brass or stainless steel, chosen for smooth operation and resistance to corrosion.
